A new carpooling platform built for mountain and outdoor communities is rolling out across Scotland, offering travellers a simpler, more affordable, and more sustainable way to reach mountain resorts, ski centres, bike parks, outdoor centres, and events.
Mountain Rideshare connects drivers with spare seats to passengers heading to the same destinations, helping reduce single-occupancy vehicle journeys, ease road and parking congestion, and lower the environmental impact of outdoor travel.
As Scotland's mountain regions continue to attract skiers, snowboarders, bikers, climbers, hikers, and event-goers, access remains a major challenge. Many destinations are difficult to reach without a car, public transport options are limited, and rising travel costs create barriers for people who want to spend time outdoors.
Mountain Rideshare addresses this by giving both travellers and venues a practical tool to improve access while supporting sustainability goals.
For travellers, the platform helps save money, reduce travel stress, and make outdoor trips more social. For resorts, facilities, and event organisers, Mountain Rideshare offers a way to improve visitor experience, reduce congestion and parking pressure, and encourage participation from people who might otherwise struggle to attend.
The platform allows venues and events to actively promote shared travel to their locations, aligning with increasingly urgent environmental commitments, responsible tourism strategies, and climate targets.
Mountain Rideshare is already working with established Scottish mountain destinations including Glencoe Mountain Resort, Cairngorm Mountain Scotland, and Lecht 2090, demonstrating early momentum and demand for shared-travel solutions across the country's outdoor sector.
"Shared travel to mountain destinations is a simple win," said Tosh, founder of Mountain Rideshare. "Fewer cars on the road, less congestion at venues, lower emissions, and better access for people who want to get outdoors. It's a win for visitors, operators, and the environment."
Mountain Rideshare is positioning itself as a long-term partner for Scotland's outdoor ecosystem, working alongside ski centres, bike parks, outdoor hubs, and event organisers to help normalise shared travel as part of the mountain experience.
The project is the brainchild of Tosh, a long-standing member of the The Snowboard Asylum family since its early days.
"It's crazy to think there are so many cars driving to the same slopes, each with spare seats in them," said Tosh. "All these people with a shared love of the mountains — who could be travelling together, swapping stories, saving money, and reducing pollution at the same time. That's why I've set it up."
Mountain Rideshare is now inviting resorts, outdoor centres, bike parks, event organisers, land managers, destination bodies, and local authorities across Scotland to get in touch to explore partnership opportunities.
By working together, venues can offer visitors a practical shared-travel solution that reduces congestion and parking pressure, improves access, supports sustainability goals, and helps more people enjoy Scotland's outdoor spaces.
